Fitgenes was envisioned in 2007 via a strategic alliance between the principles of two companies involved in the health and fitness sector, Dr Paul Beaver, Mrs Leigh Beaver and Mr Matt Patti. The founders collectively had many years of experience in development and research, behavioural and educational psychology, teaching, coaching and mentoring in the areas of fitness, health and nutrition. In 2009, Fitgenes Pty Ltd was incorporated to commercialise the intellectual property developed by the founders, which included over two decades of dedicated research by Dr Paul Beaver, now Fitgenes Director (Science).
